Voice

Theo’s vocal training began with attending the American Boychoir School from 2009-2013. There, he learned technique and musicianship skills that have stayed with him ever since. With the choir, he toured 30 states and South Korea, and he sang with conductors and ensembles such as Alan Gilbert with the New York Philharmonic, Yannick Nezet-Seguin with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Esa-Pekka Salonen with the Philharmonia Orchestra, and Michael Tilson Thomas with the Tanglewood Festival Orchestra.

Theo currently sings with the choir of St. James in the City in Los Angeles, Tonality, C3LA, the vocal octet Exilio, and the USC Chamber Singers. At Princeton, Theo sang with the Princeton University Glee Club, Chamber Choir, and the Katzenjammers. Choral repertoire performed includes Poulenc’s Figure Humaine, Sarah Kirkland Snider’s Mass for the Endangered (which he later performed with Gallicantus), Joby Talbot’s Path of Miracles (later performed one to a part in Los Angeles), Macmillan’s Miserere, Handel’s Dixit Dominus, Britten’s War Requiem, Bach’s St John Passion, Martin’s Mass for Double Choir, Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms, Faure’s Requiem, the quartets in Allegri’s Miserere and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, and the US premiere of Tavener’s Total Eclipse. Theo has conducted, arranged for, and soloed with the Katzenjammers on various occasions, departing from standard acapella repertoire to include jazz arrangements such as Round Midnight and A Night in Tunisia, and classical selections by Poulenc, Rachmaninoff, and Gesualdo.

Theo’s solo and consort repertoire draws heavily from the 20th and 21st centuries. While studying consort singing with Gabriel Crouch and Jacqueline Horner-Kwiatek, he performed selections by Gesualdo, Takemitsu, Lang, Daniel Trueman, Richard Einhorn, Roxanna Panufnik, Shruthi Rajasekar, and others. He continues his passion for 1-to-a-part singing in Exilio, a recently founded octet dedicated to programming new music and composers from historically underrepresented groups.

Theo is valued for his quick musicianship, clarity of tone, stylistic versatility, and wide range extending from low bass to high baritone registers, making him a useful soloist and ensemble member. He currently studies voice with Reid Bruton in Los Angeles. Contact Theo for an artistic resume and a complete list of repertoire.
